We know that moving to a new location (however exciting), can feel a little daunting when settling in to your new surroundings. Connecting with the locals; especially your neighbours, can make all the difference when it comes to building a sense of community – and chances are you will meet life-long friends along the way!
To guide you on your way, we’ve reached out to new residents in some of our Master Planned communities to help us put together a couple of friendly tips on how to break the ice and make friends in your new neighbourhood:
Introduce yourself
“First impressions are everything when starting out at a new place. By putting on a friendly face and giving a neighbour or a passer-by a quick wave, you’ll pave the way for a great first impression!”
Alison, Resident at Central Springs, Caboolture
Take a wander through your wonderful new neighborhood
“While this walk will give you a chance to get some fresh air and de-stress from all the unpacking, it will also allow you to explore your surroundings and get to know the area; including all the local hot spots! You might even run into a few friendly faces along the way!”
David, Resident at Pacific Cove, Pimpama
Join a local club
“There’s no better way to meet new people that to join in at all the local hotspots; whether it’s your local gym, local sports club, or simply signing up as a member of your local coffee shop. By immersing yourself in the local “social culture”, and becoming a “regular” at all the local hot spots, you are bound to meet and bond with like-minded people.”
Lyn, Resident at Pacific Harbour, Bribie Island
Host a house warming
“As daunting as it may seem, hosting a small house warming with a few of your new neighbours is the best way to secure your friendships and connect with them in a low-pressure environment. Simply order some pizza or have a BBQ in the backyard! Your neighbours will be dying to catch a glimpse inside your brand-new home, and this is the ultimate ice breaker to socialise with your new friends within the comforts of your own home!”
Steve, Resident at Jimboomba Woods, Jimboomba
